Our Vet Center provides medical care for the animals in our shelter, from routine spay and neuter surgeries to pain management, anxiety treatment, and overall health and wellness. Our Vet Center Staff


Dr. Maureen Luschini VMD, DACVECC is a board-certified veterinary emergency and critical care specialist with extensive experience in both clinical medicine and organizational leadership. She has built her career around providing high-level care for critically ill animals while maintaining a deep commitment to advancing animal welfare. As a former owner of a 24-hour veterinary emergency and specialty hospital, she developed strong expertise in hospital operations, team leadership, and clinical decision-making under pressure. Dr. Luschini currently contributes to veterinary education as a visiting lecturer at Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine. She also serves on Cornell’s Course Design Committee, helping shape modern, problem-based veterinary curricula. Her professional background includes collaboration with law enforcement, providing medical care and documentation in animal cruelty and neglect cases. In addition to her clinical and academic work, she has been actively involved in community initiatives, including organizing school fundraising efforts. Dr. Luschini is passionate about strengthening the human–animal bond and improving access to veterinary care within communities. She brings a strategic mindset that balances compassionate care with efficient, sustainable operations. Through her leadership, clinical expertise, and dedication to education, she continues to make a meaningful impact on animal welfare and the veterinary profession.
